About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word which means "all encompassing," the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure however, they bounce back with their fourth release Isolation with two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour established them as a brand all over the world.
After a break of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It's a change from the ballads of previous albums and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and make a new album using a new producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
